Postage stamps and postal history of South West Africa
As the stamps were new, most of the designs were kept with only the name. [2] In 1989, the last stamps of South West Africa were a set of 15 depicting minerals and mining. Shortly before their issue in 1990, the territory gained independence as Namibia.
Postage stamps and postal history of South Africa
Modern issues are just inscribed "South Africa". The first set of the Republic was issued on 31 May 1961. From 1961 to 1966, stamps were inscribed "REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA REPUBLIEK VAN SUID-AFRIKA". However, from 1967 stamps were simply inscribed "RSA".
Nameless stamps of the Americas and Africa
Fewer stamps were issued without a country name from the Americas and Africa. Examples of stamps from Europe and Asia that do not have country names were addressed in previous Stamp Collecting Basics columns (March 21 and April 4 issues of Linn’s).
Impressions of Africa: money, medals and stamps
These case studies will show how money and stamps reflect. The exhibition will feature nine case studies, from throughout the 20th century: Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, French West Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
